About Me

Hello!

My name is Emily Corsino, and I will be your teacher this year. Here is a little bit about me:

I graduated from the University of South Carolina, where I earned two degrees: political science and English. From there, I attended Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland for my graduate work, and I earned my Secondary Education certification.

This is my 6th year teaching. I taught 8th grade ELA in Summerville, for 3 years, with a focus on academic writing. I also taught 6th grade ELA for a year at the same school. Most recently, I worked as a substitute for local schools, and I even taught high school English in summer school.

I am a Harry Potter fan! I love young adult literature, including The Hunger Games, and the Mazer Runner. Historical fiction is my favorite genre to read, because I find that these stories connect history and present tense in such a way that makes me want to read more and learn about history as well.

I believe that through reading, our minds take us to places we never thought we could go, and we get a chance to experience the struggles, adventures and triumphs of others. In these adventures lies the learning! This is why I became an English teacher- to share this idea with my students and hopefully teach them to love reading as much as I do. In my experience, I have found that published authors are proven master writers, and they are the best models of good writing available. The more you read, the stronger your reading, writing, and thinking skills will be.

I know that there are many things we can teach each other, and I can't wait to see what you are going to share with me!
